At the end of the 1990s, in line with what was happening in other countries in terms of accessibility and integration of audiovisual media, the incorporation of a Closed Captioning system on Argentine television became a goal for the deaf community. At that time, taking on the project was a huge challenge.
For the Closed Captioning system to exist, three conditions had to be met: the channels had to agree to make a significant technological investment, the television manufacturers had to produce a compatible model, and trained technical personnel was required.
Pilar García and Patricia González participated in the “Closed Captioning” project in various technical assistance and consulting roles. Some time later, Juan Suárez Santiago joined the work team and, together, they managed to establish themselves as a provider of accessibility services in audiovisual media, incorporating the rest of the services in the years that followed.
In 2004. Pilar García, Patricia González and Juan Suárez Santiago, who had built a joint experience in the world of accessibility, decided to found Caption Group.
The company was created with the intention of deepening the development of accessibility tools and services. Caption Group offers advice and consultancy on accessibility issues for both companies and public organizations. In addition, it deepens its ties with disability-related organizations that lead to the launch of new services: audio description for audiovisual productions, sign language (LSA), consultancy on simple language and, finally, the comprehensive service for the Accessible Theaters project (consulting and production of audio description and subtitles for plays).
In 2020, Caption Group doubles down: it launches the live translation and subtitling service for streaming platforms, which is a success from day one.
We tell our story because recounting this long journey is a way of showing the values that support our commitment to each task we undertake.
